Celebrating my brothers 43rd birthday this weekend was pretty wonderful. It wasn't anything grandiose or something that required months of planning but it was perhaps just as special.
My brother and I have always used movies as a way to connect. A text message of a funny quote from a movie we watched 300 times as children, or a screenshot when one of them just happens to be on cable tv. It gives us that feeling of nostalgia and for me joy and laughter.
This weekend, we decided to go and see "Bad Boys for Life", a saga we have both quoted hundreds if not thousands of times over the years, so it seems only natural we go and see this movie together. The plan was set, the time was picked and then it dawned on me, we hadn't seen a movie together in a theatre since 2003!!! IF you're curious, it was
"Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines".
A lot happens in that 17 years, besides several other Terminator movies, I battled depression, beat depression, left Starbucks in 2004, worked for The Keg, met my wife, left The Keg, worked for MLSE, became a Realtor, renovated a home (pretty much by myelf) Relapsed into depression, married my wife, had 2 children, beat depression.....quit MLSE, quit being a Realtor and returned to Starbucks!
Regardless of how long it took my brother and I to commit 2 hours to watching this movie together last night to celebrate his 43rd birthday, I am GRATEFUL we had that opportunity.
Everyday is a GIFT, don't let it take 17 years to do something that brings you joy. Thanks for taking the time out bro.
Lots of love!
-Chris
